Which short paragraph sounds better? o__O?

I actually think you could use either one! However the last sentence/part after the hyphen is worded oddly. I would add the words "the ship together" between hold and as and get rid of the comma. Also, I don't think you used the word surped correctly and I would change it to ped. So, it would read: ("--"or ".") Like the fact that sticky tape couldn't possibly be strong enough to hold the ship together as we ped the ozone layer, which to top it off was far worse now.
