How do you feel about stricter punishments for criminals?

I'm not talking a few months or years. I'm talking about, once you've proven that you can't play well with others, you're done. You're in a cell, locked away underground somewhere. Of course it would be case by case, but lets say someone robs a liquor store for no reason other than greed, and they are in their late 20's? They are obviously defunct, and should not be in society. Sure, this sounds like a dictatorship, but ponder this, the only people who wouldn't approve of this, are criminals.. true? Could you imagine the crime rate in this country if the punishment was actually really and extensive? We could go out at night, we wouldnt need guns for protection, we wouldn't need but three or four police for a city, hundreds of thousand lives would be saved. Tell me what you think and please be polite. I'm sick of immaturity on Answers.
