Does college make people (especially females) more shallow?

I am currently a college student and this may have affected me I don't know, but it seems like alot of students in college are really shallow and self-centered. I realize they are young, immature, and just want to fit in. But it seems like it is ridiculous how some, especially a lot of the girls act. It really hit me when I ran into my ex girlfriend the other day. She is a totally different person, Ugg boots, tights, big bug eyes sun gles, the typical college girl outfit I guess. Her attitude was like the typical sorority girl (im not trying to stereotype all sorority girls, ive met alot of nice "normal" ones) she was just kinda rude and aloof. When we dated she was a really nice and more down to earth person. So does college make people more shallow?
