Where should I book to stay for my first 2 nights in Bangkok (with jet lag and possible nerves!)?

Hi, I'm a first time traveller on a year long solo trip starting in Bangkok. I was reccomended by the travel agent to have my first 2 nights of my travels already booked and at somewhere fairly comfortable and slightly more expensive as I try to overcome jet lag (and potential nerves!). Do you agree with this opinion or should these opening nights just be in any old place (maybe on Khao San Road)? Where do you reccomend?
